Support survivors
Visit

to learn about torture-survivor programs in your area. Since they address the
needs of the communities that they serve, each program is different. Many are
looking for pro-bono assistance from health-care providers, lawyers, and
mental-health professionals. Others need volunteers to help paint, stuff
envelopes, and collect personal items. Connect with a program in your area to find out
how you and your congregation can help.
TASSC Communities of Healing also provide a way for Unitarian Universalists to support survivors. In addition to the same types of assistance that treatment centers need, they also often need meeting space and help with advocacy campaigns. Contact TASSC or UUSC to find out of there is a Community of Healing in your area.
"[The Center for Victims of Torture (CVT)] is very grateful for our long and
rich partnership with Unity Church-Unitarian...Each member of the Unity
team brought their own marvelous gifts and talents to CVT, and these gifts were
amplified as they worked together as a team. With the enthusiastic support from
the Unity congregation, their remarkable accomplishments and contributions have
made CVT stronger, touched the lives of many clients, and greatly increased our
community of supporters."
—Beth Wickum, director of volunteer services at CVT, Minneapolis, Minn.
