UUSC bylaws Articles I - III
ARTICLE I.
NAME and CORPORATE SEAL
The name of the organization is the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, Inc. The organization shall have a corporate seal which shall be in such form as approved by the Board of Trustees.
ARTICLE II.
MISSION and PURPOSES
Section 1:
Grounded in Unitarian Universalist principles that affirm the worth, dignity and human rights of every person, and the interdependence of all life, the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (DBA UUSC or, herein, the Corporation) is a voluntary, nonsectarian organization working to advance justice throughout the world.
Section 2:
In a manner consistent with and without derogation of the purposes of UUSC as set forth in the Articles of Organization, UUSC advances human rights and social justice around the world, partnering with those who confront unjust power structures, and mobilizing to challenge oppressive policies. UUSC devotes its resources to and exercises its corporate powers for charitable and educational purposes; to solicit and receive funds separately or with others to support its activities, without limitation as to amount; to receive, hold, manage, invest, re-invest, purchase, distribute, and sell or otherwise dispose of any real and personal property for the foregoing purposes, subject to the provisions of the law.
Section 3:
No part of the net earnings or receipts of funded property of the Corporation shall inure to the benefit of any officer, private individual, member of the Corporation, employee or substantial contributor; and attempting to influence legislation shall not be a substantial part of the activities of the Corporation; and the Corporation shall not participate in nor intervene in any political campaign on the behalf of any candidate for public office.
Section 4:
In affirming the inherent worth, dignity, and human rights of every individual, the Corporation will function in all its structure and activities with attention to overcoming barriers related to race, ethnicity, class, creed, age, gender, sexual orientation or physical disability. The Corporation will make its values clear in all its programs and will remain nonsectarian in its approach.
ARTICLE III.
MEMBERSHIP
- Membership shall be open to all persons who support the mission and the programs of the Corporation.
- The Board of Trustees shall establish dues, membership categories and privileges. Except as provided by the Board of Trustees, membership in the Corporation shall be for twelve (12) months, with dues payable annually.
