About Justice Sunday

Your congregation can change the world! Each spring, Unitarian Universalist congregations nationwide stand together on one pressing human rights issue. By celebrating Justice Sunday, members of your congregation gain in-depth knowledge about an urgent human rights issue and take action steps to advocate for change.

  • Justice Sunday 2009 celebrated 60 years of justice by honoring the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Congregations focused on the relevance of the UDHR not only to the work of UUSC's four programs but also to everyone's daily lives.
  • Justice Sunday 2008 focused on the cost of the Iraq war. The war in Iraq has drained this nation's resources, creating a humanitarian crisis in Iraq, and leaving a multitude needs at home unmet — including the disgraceful lack of resources and commitment to rebuild.
  • Justice Sunday 2007 focused on the crisis in Darfur, mobilizing congregations to speak out against the genocide and participate in UUSC's Drumbeat for Darfur campaign.
  • Justice Sunday 2006 focused on economic justice by supporting labor rights and living wage. Congregations nationwide united in supporting workers' rights.
  • Justice Sunday 2005 focused on defending the human right to water, both in the United States and globally. Justice Sunday celebrations nationwide helped many congregants learn about this pressing but rarely discussed human rights issue.
  • Justice Sunday 2004 — the first Justice Sunday — brought together UU congregations across the nation to defend human rights in Burma, and included a petition drive calling for justice in the wake of Unocal's pipeline project.

This March, on Justice Sunday, join UUSC to take action for change, because advancing human rights is the work of many joining hands.
