Freedom Summer: A Civil Rights Journey 2009

Join UUSC for the 6th Annual Freedom Summer: Civil Rights Journey.

During this intergenerational trip, we will travel together by bus to sites of significance in the U.S. civil rights movement. In the cities of Atlanta, Birmingham, Montgomery, and Selma, we will walk in the footsteps of civil rights heroes who helped to integrate schoolrooms and lunch counters, register African-American voters, and more.

We will hear inspirational stories from some of the people who faced great odds to challenge our nation and lead us closer to a just and equal society.

The journey will conclude with a service component that puts journeyers to work in a local community. "It was through our service and action that we were able to take up the civil-rights and human-rights struggle that was started so many years before," explained Giles Holt, a 2008 journeyer and JustWorks intern. "And for two days, we won that struggle."

Participants will return to their communities as dedicated activists and civil-rights supporters. Reserve your seat today!
