Local Haitians seek long-term answers

A new federal immigration policy designed to protect US Haitians is creating as much concern as excitement. Organizations dealing with the quake's aftermath have [made quick] connections to deal with the complicated legal issues involved.

In Somerville, Mass., the Haitian Coalition mobilized with the Community Action Agency of Somerville, the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, Cambridge Health Alliance, and Harvard Law School to spread the word. They held a Jan. 22 information session with representatives of US Citizenship and Immigration Services. On Feb. 20, they're holding a marathon session where lawyers will help applicants complete paperwork.
