Senior officials from Citizens Bank and the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee officially open the new "lift" for handicapped persons at the landmark building they share in Cambridge's Central Square. Shown here are (left to right) UUSC President William F. Schulz, UUSC Board Chair Chuck Spence, and Robert Hawley, branch manager for Citizens Bank, which occupies the first floor in space leased from UUSC, an international human rights organization that owns the building and occupies the upper two floors. Schulz said the modernized handicapped access at the building's 689 Massachusetts Ave. entrance was made possible with a generous contribution from Citizens, which voluntarily offered to pay more than half the cost.
