Justice Sunday 2010: Advancing Economic Justice
On (March 28, 2010), Justice Sunday, we will stand up with UU congregations nationwide to put our principles into practice.
This year's Justice Sunday will advance economic justice. While there has been significant progress in securing recognition of workers' rights as human rights, these efforts are up against bigger challenges in the context of the global economic crisis.
Our worship and social activities will spotlight issues affecting workers both close to home and around the world. With the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, we will offer meaningful advocacy actions, so together we can put our UU principles into action and move the world closer to justice.
Fundraising Announcement
If you are devoting a collection plate to UUSC or running a UUSC membership
effort along with your Justice Sunday, remember to highlight these key points:
UUSC is a membership organization that is independent of and receives no funding from the UUA. It depends on the active participation and financial support of its members to carry out its vital work. UUSC's status as a membership organization provides us the autonomy to advocate for justice-oriented public policies across the political spectrum — our support from member contributions makes up approximately 60 percent of our annual budget. By neither seeking nor accepting government funds, UUSC maintains a high level of independence.
Become a member of UUSC today; double your impact by giving the gift of membership to someone you love:
- $40 for a single membership
- $75 for a dual membership
- $10 for students or youth
- $20 for seniors (65+)
Gifts of $100 or more are eligible to be matched dollar for dollar, thanks to a generous grant from the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock, in Manhasset, N.Y.
Each UUSC membership gives UUSC the power to create positive social change. When UUSC meets with elected officials, they make it known that they represent nearly 40,000 members and supporters around the country who are committed to positive change. Imagine if that number were 150,000. It starts with you.
