Values into Action: UUs Reclaiming Democracy
Much is at stake in upcoming elections. Regressive policies and corporate control oppress people on the margins and disenfranchise the vulnerable. Hear from frontline activists working on the Arizona recall election and voter rights in other states, and learn what UUs and our partners can do together. Values into Action: Mobilizing Communities against Police Profiling
The Bill of Rights Defense Committee (BORDC), a UUSC partner, mobilizes diverse coalitions to provide enforceable local laws that protect civil liberties. Through BORDC’s Local Civil Rights Restoration campaigns, Unitarian Universalists and communities affected by profiling can work together to restrict local police from implementing federal policies, including immigration enforcement.

Water Justice and the Blue Revolution
Blue Revolution author Cynthia Barnett calls for citizen action to change our water ethic. Panelists working in California and Alabama, where regressive immigration and water policies exclude communities from access to safe drinking water, will share how congregations can act to ensure water justice and the human right to water.

Storytelling, Mobilization, and Social Media
Stories are a powerful tool for social change. Use online communication to tell your story, build relationships with partner organizations, and win legislative and consumer-advocacy victories. Panelists include speakers from Standing on the Side of Love, the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, and the statewide networks.

UUSC Gala
Anita Hill is a great heroine to most Unitarian Universalists. Come hear her in conversation with UUSC President Bill Schulz about issues of race, gender, economic injustice, and her new book from Beacon Press, Reimagining Equality. Now professor of social policy, law, and women’s studies at Brandeis University, Hill will be available to sign copies of her book following the program. This is a rare opportunity to meet one of America’s most courageous figures. Event will include live jazz music and refreshments.
