Listen. Reflect. Act.

In today's world, taking the time to stop and reflect on the struggle for human rights might seem like a luxury. But for many people around the world, it is the critical first step in achieving their rights.

UUSC partners take risks every day when raising their voices. For low-wage maquila workers in Mexico, raising your voice might mean the loss of a job. For girls and young women in Afghanistan, going to school and speaking out are political acts. In South Africa, community organizers raised their voices to secure access to clean, safe sources of water — and they won!

In the coming weeks, UUSC invites you to join us in our campaign to Listen. Reflect. Act. We ask you to listen to the stories of our partners, reflect on their work and the larger struggle for human rights, and act for human rights.

In recognition of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we urge you to take 60 seconds, 60 minutes, or 60 days to listen, reflect, and act. You can promote human rights on any day.

Listen. Reflect. Act.

  5. Write a letter to President Obama. Let him know that you want his presidency to be guided by the principles laid out in the UDHR.

  1. Organize a delegation to visit your senator or representative to lobby about an issue you care about and urge them to reaffirm their commitment to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
  2. Organize your congregation, community group, school, or neighborhood to take 60 minutes to learn about, discuss, and take action on human rights

By taking time to Listen. Reflect. Act., you can raise awareness about the critical issues of our time.
