UUSC founders honored for heroism
Rev. Waitstill and Martha Sharp, who left their Wellesley, Mass., church on the eve of World War II to help rescue victims of Nazi persecution, are being honored as Righteous Among the Nations.

A call to action on Darfur genocide
After a 10-day fact-finding trip to the region by President Charlie Clements and Program Director Atema Eclai, UUSC challenged the international community to take steps to end the human rights atrocities that have shattered the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians in Darfur, Sudan.

USA Patriot Act fails key courtroom test
In an important court test for the controversial USA Patriot Act, a former university professor in Florida was acquitted of terrorism charges. The case against Sami al-Arian, trumpeted by then-U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft as a breakthrough in the war against terror, was based largely on the federal government’s strengthened surveillance powers, and comes as Congress prepares to decide whether to extend key provisions of the Act.
