Summary: The Senior Advisor for the Capital Campaign will report to the IA Director. He/she will develop a comprehensive short, medium and long term strategy and plan for a Capital Campaign. In addition, the Senior Advisor will build and sustain relationships and support to ensure the fulfillment of Campaign gifts.

In the context of the Capital Campaign, the Senior Advisor will manage a portfolio of approximately 100 – 150 prospects rated at the $20,000 and above level as the primary cultivator and solicitor, bringing the President and Board Chair and other Directors/Board members in as appropriate. Prospects will include specific identified annual donors being upgraded, major donors and new prospects. As one of the key spokespersons for UUSC’s mission, the Senior Advisor will pursue new fundraising opportunities, as well as build upon existing relationships.

The Senior Advisor will at the outset identify candidates for and establish a Campaign Committee. H/she will work closely with the proposed Campaign Committee and Campaign Chair.

The Senior Advisor will work in close collaboration with other IA Department team members to ensure coordination of all Campaign-related fundraising activities. This may entail developing and implementing plans to improve and expand the infrastructure and fully engage the development team’s support for capital campaign gifts. The Senior Advisor will participate in prospect review meetings, prospect research, small cultivation events and activities to develop his or her own portfolio, as well as that of the solicitation team.

The Senior Advisor will oversee all campaign-related activities, including planning activities and a timeline, developing campaign materials and implementing a marketing strategy in collaboration with Communications staff. He/she will travel frequently to visit prospects, donors, and others.

This position will draw on multiple talents to achieve greatest impact, including excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, a strategic point of view, effective people skills, and a demonstrated ability to solicit high level contributions.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Together with the solicitation team participate in the design, policy setting, planning, and overseeing of UUSC’s Capital Campaign. options, recommend priority campaigning issues to the UUSC Management Team. Coordinate overall campaign implementation.

  • Works closely with the Board of Trustees, the Directors and UUSC staff to ensure maximum support for the Capital Campaign, and ensure it forms an integral part of achieving the goals of the strategic plan.

  • Manages a portfolio of at least 100 - 150 active major gift prospects

  • Cultivate, solicit, and close five to seven figure major and planned gifts

  • Develop specific strategies to substantially increase giving in the range of approximately $20K-$500K. Work closely with members of the campaign and major gifts team to build the level of support in this range

  • Plan, coordinate and direct cultivation and stewardship events for prospects and donors

  • Participate in overall strategic planning for major fundraising efforts and to achieve goals

  • Supervises staff as appropriate and assigned

  • Any other duties as assigned.

Successful candidates should demonstrate::

  • 10+ years of major gifts development experience, with a track record of success with individual gifts of $500,000+

  • Capital campaign experience

  • Experience working with boards and senior management

  • Management experience, in particular related to core fundraising processes

  • Strong writing, verbal and priority setting skills

  • A genuine interest in UUSC’s mission and the ability to effectively communicate it

  • An ability to think in an analytic and strategic fashion

  • Demonstrated interest in international development/affairs

  • Demonstrated ability to form and sustain relationships

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently as well as in teams

  • Ability to travel
