Justice Sunday 2012
Justice Is the Human Right to Water
UUSC
seeks to promote and defend the human right to water, both in the United States
and around the world.
This
year's Justice Sunday theme — "Justice Is the Human Right to Water" — focuses
on how UUSC upholds the inherent worth and dignity of every person through our Environmental Justice Program, specifically through
protecting the human right to water. All people have a right to safe, sufficient, affordable, accessible water for daily human
needs. In the United States and internationally, UUSC and our partners are
working to defend this right.
Justice Sunday highlights our ongoing human-rights work and provides learning, advocacy, and action resources to help organize members of your congregation to explore a particular humanitarian issue. We encourage congregations to engage with the theme over several weeks or months, in order to have the most meaningful cycle of reflection, understanding, and action. Along with a suite of social-action resources, a sample sermon and worship service help you culminate Justice Sunday with a commemorative worship observance. The suggested date for the worship is March 25, 2012 — the Sunday closest to World Water Day — but we encourage congregations to plan the program dates that work best for their calendars.
Planning and participation resources will be added to the Justice Sunday website as the program unfolds. If you have questions about planning your program, contact us at volunteerservices@uusc.org.
