What Congregations Are Doing for Justice Sunday
Each year, we ask Justice Sunday coordinators to share with us any events or activities that made their program special. We are always impressed by the creativity and commitment that goes into these activities. Tell us your idea!
We hope that the selections below will inspire you to try something new during this year's Justice Sunday program. Share your own ideas in the comment box below and e-mail pictures to volunteerservices@uusc.org.
You may also wish to join our volunteer Facebook group, a great place to share stories and ideas with other program coordinators! Just click "Request to Join Group."
While some of the activities listed below may be for a special project, we encourage our volunteers to promote a holistic view of UUSC's work to help generate unrestricted support, which we can apply where need is the greatest.
Thank you for giving of your time, support, and creativity! Check out what other congregations are up to:
The UUSC team at First Church in Portland, Ore., organized a visit to their local water source, the Bull Run Watershed, and met with a member of the water board. The field trip was so popular they needed a second bus!
With the help of their teachers Carrie Brandon and Patti Walters, the fifth and sixth graders at First Parish in Norwell, Mass., chose UUSC as their focus for outreach. As a result of discussion and study about the right to water, they created a video with help from a high-school student at the church.
Congregations across Florida participated in a state-wide, youth-led project to raise support for a UUSC partner in Kenya. They used lesson plans on the human right to water and organized a variety of events, from a Kenyan lunch to a tree planting and ice cream social.
UUSC Local Representative Ann Hailey used an origami cup activity to encourage people to visit her UUSC table and engage them in conversation about the human right to water.
