UUSC Just Journeys
JustJourney to Guatemala

The Journey toward Justice in Rabinal, Guatemala
February 17-24, 2007

Join UUSC for a JustJourney that focuses on the efforts of human rights defenders to end impunity in Guatemala and set a precedent for protecting international human rights. Participants will travel to the north-central part of Guatemala to:

• Learn firsthand how indigenous communities have organized and are holding Guatemala’s former military officials accountable for crimes against humanity committed in the 1980s.

• Meet communities displaced by the construction of the Chixoy Dam, the largest hydroelectric project in Central America, and to hear the story of their efforts to obtain reparations.

This JustJourney is being organized in collaboration with the First Unitarian Fellowship of Newton, Mass.

Cost: $1,200, excluding travel to and from Guatemala City. This includes all pre- and post-trip literature; room and board; in-country transportation, and fees for interpreters and experienced facilitators. The trip cost does not include airfare to and from Guatemala City or any incidentals. UUSC will provide shuttle transportation from the Guatemala City airport to Antigua.

Lodging: Participants will stay in double rooms at moderately priced hotels or guest houses.

Meals: All of your meals are provided. These are usually family/buffet style.

Application deadline: January 5, 2007. This is an intense trip designed for adult participants. There are six spots still available.
