UUSC’s Drumbeat for Darfur campaign has formally joined hands with
the Fidelity Out of Sudan divestment campaign to cut off the flow of
funds that are financing the Sudanese government’s campaign of
genocide.
Together, we can pressure Fidelity to divest its holdings in
PetroChina and make Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir recognize the
cost of his actions.
Fidelity Investments currently invests $1.2 billion in
PetroChina, a Chinese oil company. Given that 70-80 percent of
Sudan’s oil revenues are used to purchase weapons, Americans are
literally funding the genocide against the Darfurian people through
their savings and retirement accounts.
Take action now!
Whether or not you are a Fidelity investor, you can take the
following steps:
E-mail Fidelity.
Tell Anne Crowley, senior vice president for media relations and
public affairs, that you object to Fidelity’s investments in Chinese
oil companies that are literally funding the genocide in Darfur.
Send an immediate e-mail through our
Legislative Action Center
where you will find talking points
to help you craft your message.
Call Fidelity at 617-563-7000 and ask for their “executive office.”
If you are not a Fidelity investor, here’s a sample script:
“As a concerned citizen, I am calling to tell you that I am deeply
disappointed that Fidelity is continuing to make large investments
in Sudan’s oil industry which helps fund the genocide in Darfur.
Fidelity’s actions will have a negative impact on whether I choose
to do business with Fidelity in the future. I urge Fidelity to
divest the PetroChina and Sinopec stocks now held by your Contrafund
and other mutual funds.”
If you are a Fidelity investor, you’ll be asked for your account
number or social security number to register your comments. Here’s a
sample script:
“I am a concerned citizen and a Fidelity investor. I am deeply
disappointed that Fidelity is continuing to make large investments
in Sudan’s oil industry which helps fund the genocide in Darfur. I
urge Fidelity to divest the PetroChina and Sinopec stocks now held
by your Contrafund and other mutual funds. I am so concerned and
disappointed that I am considering moving my money out of Fidelity.”

steps you can take to divest your own investments and those of your
