Karen Schneider

Karen Schneider, of Bethesda, Md., is vice president of communications at the National Women's Law Center, where she works to create public awareness to achieve policy change for women and their families. She previously served as director of communications at Greenpeace USA, as deputy executive director of communications at Amnesty International USA, and as director of communications at the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (now NARAL Pro-Choice America). She also has worked as a communications consultant, advising such clients as the Alliance for Justice and the Center for Women Policy Studies.

Earlier in her career, she worked as a journalist, serving as an education writer, bureau chief, Washington correspondent, and deputy national/foreign editor at such newspapers as the Hartford Courant and Detroit Free Press. She is a graduate of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. She also serves on the board of directors of Verité and of the Center for Women Policy Studies.
