Doaba Foundation

“Doaba” means “the land between two rivers.” Doaba Foundation works to improve the quality of life among rural people and, true to its name, concentrates on communities prone to flood disasters. Doaba believes in achieving its goal through optimal utilization of available resources: physical-biological, moral, and human. It seeks to build the capacity of such communities, incorporating relief activities into programs of preparedness intervention, thereby facilitating the emergence of self-reliant communities.

Following the 2010 floods in Pakistan and with UUSC support, Doaba is helping a community of 30 flood-affected seminomadic families in southern Pakistan access their rights, including the acquisition of land and the construction of environmentally appropriate, flood-resilient, raised mud homes. Both the land and the homes will be titled to both the male and female heads of households. A permanent home and the established residency that comes along with that are the foundation for accessing other rights in Pakistan.
