Guatemala camp

January 14-22, 2006 (Intergenerational 18+) $600

A look at fair trade within the coffee industry, this camp is an experiential learning opportunity in Guatemala with UUSC and Equal Exchange.

February 6-10, 2006, New Orleans

A cleanup and rehabilitation camp to assist Hurricane Katrina survivors who remain in or want to return to New Orleans. $300.

Katrina Relief, Mississippi Download application (pdf)
March 5-11, 2006, Biloxi, Miss. $300.

Volunteers will work with community-based partners assisting returning Hurricane Katrina survivors to clean up and repair homes. Any help is appreciated, but electricians, carpenters, and experienced drywall installers are especially welcome. Scholarships are available, but you must register quickly!

Participants will learn firsthand about the contemporary life and culture of Native Americans in the United States.

Freedom Summer 2006: A Civil Rights Journey Download application (pdf)

(Intergenerational 14+)

Participants will explore the civil rights history of the United States by retracing some of the key battlegrounds of the 1960s.

August 6-12, 2006, St. Francis, S.D. (Teens only, 16+)
South Dakota
. $400

In collaboration with the Lakota community on the Rosebud Reservation, volunteers will examine how issues of race, class, and gender are portrayed in the media. Participants will learn video production skills that will inspire them to do follow-up media work promoting racial and economic justice.
