In the wake of the
tsunami disaster in South and Southeast Asia, many Unitarian
Universalist congregations and individual UUs responded in unique
and creative ways of raising funds for humanitarian relief or
expressing support for the survivors and relief workers. If you know
of anything happening in your community or church, we would like to
hear from you. Please contact us at 800.388.3920, ext. 230 or by

UU artist
organizes online “thank you” program
Laura Evonne Steinman, a lifelong UU now living in
Warsaw,
Poland,
is working on an online participatory art project that is creating a
thank-you quilt card with the message in mind: “We are thinking of
you.” The online quilt will be sent via mail to relief workers and
volunteers who are in the region of South and Southeast Asia who
provide assistance to tsunami victims. Laura is a community artist
with degrees from Rhode Island School of Design and the School of
the Art Institute of Chicago. She currently runs "hand in hand arts"
facilitating artshops and community projects for people of all ages
from different backgrounds. She is a member of the UU Church of the
Larger Fellowship.

Massachusetts church matches
individual donations
The Board of Trustees of the Unitarian Universalist Church of
Greater Lynn in Swampscott, Massachusetts, has decided to match all
church member contributions to the UUSC-UUA Tsunami Relief Fund, to
a maximum of $5,000. In the first two weeks, we raised $4,770. (This
includes $700 from church members who had given directly, either
online or by check, as well as our collections.)
Jim Peterson,
church president, also reports that two of the church's religious
education classes will be making things to sell at Fellowship Hour,
with the proceeds going to UUSC. “We will continue monthly
collections during the next year as well. We plan to do a press
release to the local newspapers about our efforts.”
