UUSC Workshops at GA

The Criminalization of Solidarity: A Global Challenge

Date: Thursday, June 20, 2019

Time: 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM

Location: Davenport Grand, Birch Ballroom, 333 W Spokane Falls Blvd, Spokane, WA 99201

Across the globe, repressive governments have a new strategy to disrupt social movements: criminalizing expressions of solidarity. In the United States and Europe, activists have been charged with criminal offenses, just for providing basic support to refugees and migrants. We will examine this neo-authoritarian tendency and discuss tactics to resist.

The Power of We: Succeeding Through Partnerships

Date: Saturday, June 22, 2019

Time: 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM

Location: DoubleTree, Grand Ballroom IV, 322 N Spokane Falls Ct, Spokane, WA 99201

Enhancing the ‘power of we’ must always center the voices and leadership of those most affected by social injustices. This workshop will focus on UUSC’s partnership approach as a model for advancing UU values and human rights, highlighting UUSC’s partnerships with First and Indigenous Peoples.

Love Resists

Workshop: Love Resists Detention: Accompaniment & End Money Bail

Date: Thursday, June 20, 2019

Time: 1:30 – 4:00 PM

Location: Spokane Convention Center, Rm # 300A, 334 W Spokane Falls Blvd, Spokane, WA 99201

Accompaniment programs stop deportations, reduce bond fees, and keep families together. Bail bond funds release individuals jailed for being poor. These programs center people’s dignity in a system that denies it. Love Resists, UURISE, UU State Networks, BLUU, and frontline partners share how congregations can do this work more effectively.

Love Resists Strategy Sessions

Are you part of a congregation or local interfaith network organizing around immigrant rights, the criminal (in)justice system, anti-racism, or climate justice?

The UUA, UUSC, and the UU College of Social Justice all have social justice staff present for GA in Spokane, and we’re excited to learn more about what you are doing, and to share organizing strategies and resources through “Love Resists,” our collaborative campaign to resist criminalization and expand sanctuary.
