Call The Capitol: No funding for detention, deportation, and border militarization

The U.S. government is partially shut down as President Trump continues to demand funding for a cruel and xenophobic immigration agenda. Congress is debating how much, if any, funding to provide for additional walls, detention beds, and immigration enforcement agents. There can be no congressional compromise that includes funding to support racism and xenophobia.

Please join UUSC in holding Congress accountable against the president’s demands by making three calls to your legislators to say: I don’t want my tax dollars to support an unnecessary border wall or increased immigration enforcement that will harm communities seeking refuge and safety. Start by entering your information below so that we can match you with the correct state and district. Follow the prompts below for contact information for each of your legislators’ offices to make three separate calls and provide feedback about the experience. Use the sample script below to share your opinion—feel free to personalize to share your unique expertise!

Thank you for your interest in supporting human rights.
This call to action has expired, and we encourage you to check out our Advocacy & Mobilizing page for the latest updates about our work and how to take action to challenge oppressive policies and advance justice.

Hello, my name is [FIRST, LAST]. I am a constituent from [STATE, ZIPCODE]. As a person of faith, I am calling the Senator/Representative to tell them that I don’t want my tax dollars to support an unnecessary border wall or increased immigration enforcement that will harm communities seeking refuge and safety.

This Congress must do everything in its power to ensure the administration meets its legal obligation to welcome and process asylum-seekers and keep families together. Congress must deny funding that would leave vulnerable communities without protection. I call on your office to work to responsibly reopen the government and simultaneously deny funding for deportation, detention beds, wall construction, and border militarization.

**If you are following this issue closely and know that your legislator has been opposed to funding Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda in the past they still need to hear from you! Please call and thank them for their work and support on this issue!
