Campaigns Strategist & Coordinator

Organization Overview

Guided by Unitarian Universalist principles and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, UUSC is a human rights organization that strives to advance human rights, dismantle systems of oppression, and uplift the inherent dignity and power of all people. We focus our work in three intersectional areas of justice: Migrant Justice, Climate and Disaster Justice, and International Justice and Accountability. We center the voices and experiences of those most affected and strengthen those grassroots groups and movements who are organizing themselves to advance these goals. To accomplish this, we offer Justice Education and Leadership Development, Engagement and Mobilization for Advocacy, and Grantmaking and Partner Support.

Position Overview

UUSC’s Campaigns Strategist and Coordinator will support the collaborative design of UUSC’s advocacy campaigns and the development of UUSC’s campaign infrastructure to mobilize supporters and influence decision making effectively and strategically at the federal and international level towards the achievement of UUSC’s advocacy goals. Using existing information, the campaign strategist will identify and develop a database of supporters to mobilize around UUSC’s campaigns and identify ways to communicate and effectively engage them, while taking into consideration the levers that will influence decision making targets. They will help build campaigns that are impactful and that align with the principles of human rights and social justice. This role will also provide campaign development guidance and support to UUSC’s core partners and coalition networks on areas of work that align with UUSC’s human rights goals. This position will be Remote eligible and can be based in the Cambridge/Boston area or in one of the 10 states in which UUSC is registered as an employer (MA, CT, ME, VA, MD, NC, GA, FL, WA, NY, and D.C)

Responsibilities

  • Work with UUSC staff to identify, develop and maintain a list of supporters that UUSC can reliably support and engage in our campaigns
  • Develop and maintain UUSC’s campaign infrastructure, including campaign schedule that will be able to effectively engage, both in-person and online, UUSC’s supporters and decision-making targets
  • Review decision-making targets and track and provide periodic recommendations on campaigns and actions that can effectively influence them towards UUSC’s goals
  • Develop and maintain UUSC’s values-driven campaigns handbook that provides guidelines on how a campaign is developed, implemented, and measured
  • Coordinate virtual and in-person events that can strengthen and support the development of UUSC’s campaigns
  • In collaboration with staff and partners, coordinate and guide the co-design and co-development of campaign strategies that meet UUSC’s human rights goals and that align with human rights, justice, equity and UUSC’s approach to partnerships
    • Work with UUSC’s communications team in the planning and implementation of campaigns, including providing recommendations on timing, language, narratives, technical information, materials, and graphics
    • Work with UUSC’s College of Social Justice to develop justice education content to support member campaign engagement and understanding
    • With prior consultation with the Director of Advocacy and working closely with the Partner Support and Grantmaking team support UUSC’s core partners and coalitions in planning and implementing campaigns and actions that align with UUSC’s core human rights goal
  • Engage with UUSC’s supporters, advocacy partners, think tanks, media, and decision-making targets periodically to socialize around UUSC’s campaigns and its goals
  • Using existing information, build a matrix to measure the impact of UUSC’s advocacy campaigns and track information for reporting purposes
  • Support and engage in Programs, Advocacy and Action collaborative cross-departmental teamwork, collaboration, and communication
  • This role will be required to periodically travel to UUSC events and meetings outside of D.C.
  • Other duties, as necessary

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • 3-5 years’ experience in designing and implementing advocacy campaigns at the U.S. federal and/or international levels
  • College degree in related field
  • Experience using different campaigns infrastructures that mobilize people towards federal and international advocacy
  • Familiar with interfaith/UU mobilizing and employing a range of mobilization tactics to influence power
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Highly collaborative and organized
  • Has a proven record as a successful organizer and coordinator
  • Deep commitment to human rights and social justice, willing to follow the lead of impacted leaders
  • Willingness to learn

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in Spanish or Haitian Creole
