EL PROGRESO, Honduras/CAMBRIDGE-BOSTON, Massachusetts — Sunday May 20, 2018 — An “accompaniment” delegation of U.S. human rights advocates is in Honduras this week, joining the return of a Honduran delegation of human rights defenders who toured major U.S. cities last week, to bring attention to the ongoing political and human rights crisis in their country. The Honduran delegation presented in a Congressional briefing to the House of Representatives Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission on Friday, May 18.
The group of U.S. rights advocates now in Honduras are visiting Honduran civil justice and human rights groups and communities this week, gathering reports on the realities driving Hondurans to flee their homes and seek asylum in the United States.

BACKGROUND
- Radio Progreso and ERIC (Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación, a Jesuit center for reflection, research, and communications) was founded in El Progreso, Honduras, in 1980. Its stated aim is to improve the human rights of the rural poor in Honduras.
- Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, 75-year-old human rights organization, joins with Honduran rights advocates in calling for an end to U.S. military support to the Honduran government. UUSC’S ongoing campaign to protect the integrity and existence of U.S. asylum policies has focused most recently on protesting the end of the Temporary Protection Status for Honduran nationals living in the United States, as well as ongoing pressure on the Administration to provide humane, legal treatment, and access to due process for Honduran and other migrants seeking asylum at U.S. borders.
- SHARE El Salvador, with offices in El Salvador and Berkeley, California, is committed to strengthening solidarity with and among the Salvadoran people in El Salvador and the United States in the struggle for economic sustainability, justice, and human and civil rights. SHARE as well has a deep connection with the people of Honduras and their like struggles for justice and human rights. SHARE partners with Radio Progreso and ERIC and was a key organizer and sponsor of Radio Progreso’s May delegation to the U.S.
