Rev. Bill Sinkford (he, him, his) most recently served as Transitional Minister of All Souls Church, Unitarian in Washington, DC (2022-2024). Previously, he served the First Unitarian Church of Portland, Oregon, as Senior Minister, where he is Minister Emeritus (2010-2022). As UUA President (2001-2009), he was the first African American to lead a primarily white denomination. He also served as Interim Co-President of the UUA in the spring of 2017. Rev. Bill earned his M.Div. at Starr King School for the Ministry and was ordained in 1995. His commitment to UU theological education is of long standing, as is his commitment to support persons of color who are called to UU religious leadership.
In 2002, Tufts University awarded Sinkford the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa, and was named the recipient of the 2022 Award for Distinguished Service to the Cause of Unitarian Universalism.
