UndocuBlack Network

The UndocuBlack Network (UBN) is a multigenerational network of undocumented Black people that fosters kinships, facilitates access to resources, and contributes to transforming the realities of people so they can thrive and live life to its fullest.

LOCATION: Washington, D.C.

The UndocuBlack Network’s (UBN) mission is to “Blackify” the United State’s understanding of the undocumented population and facilitate access to resources for the Black undocumented community.

In order to end the isolation and trauma among the community caused by pervasive targeting, criminalization, and deportation, UBN launched the Mental Wellness Initiative in 2017. This initiative has led to the launch of the UndocuBlack™ Guide for Mental Wellness Specialists and the Ayanda Hand in Hand program, a place for members of the UBN network to connect with other Black undocumented people and feel supported.

In its first year as a formal organization, UBN also became a national leader in the movement to win permanent status for undocumented people in the United States, ensuring that Black immigrants were centered in the fight for a clean Dream Act and protections for holders of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED). In November 2017, UBN helped draft and introduce legislation in the U.S. Senate to create permanent status for long-term TPS holders.

UUSC supports UBN’s work to build the network’s capacity and infrastructure to protect, defend, and ensure the collective survival and flourishing of Black undocumented communities.
