U.S. Senators from Maine Support Release of Torture Report

April 3, 2014

The Senate Intelligence Committee will likely vote soon on releasing the committee’s comprehensive report on the CIA’s detention and interrogation program. Release of the report would be a major step toward accountability for CIA use of torture in the post-9/11 period.

Senators Angus King and Susan Collins, the U.S. senators from Maine, sit on the Senate Intelligence Committee. Earlier this week, they were considered swing votes. UUSC reached out to supporters in Maine and urged them to call King and Collins and advocate for the release of the report. Now, we have good news to share: King and Collins issued a joint statement yesterday announcing that they will support release of the report! Read more in the Bangor Daily News.

Thank you to Senators King and Collins — and to UUSC supporters in Maine who took action!
