UUSC Statement on the Gaza Conflict

The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) affirms the right of Israel to exist in peace and security and condemns all attacks on Israeli civilians as well as the placement by Hamas of weaponry in locations likely to increase danger to civilians in Gaza.

At the same time UUSC expresses its grave concern about the disproportionate impact the Israeli military response to attacks from Gaza has had on civilians in Gaza, including those who have taken shelter under the protection of the United Nations. UUSC calls upon both parties to abide by the international laws of war and the cease-fire now in place while negotiations take place in Cairo regarding a longer-term settlement of the conflict.
