“Only people can save the people,” says UUSC Partner the Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights (GLAHR).  This Giving Tuesday offers us the opportunity to do the essential work GLAHR is talking about: we show up for one another and work to shield our neighbors from more loss, heartbreak, and harm.

At UUSC, we agree that “only people can save the people.” We know that local, frontline leaders are the ones who know their communities best. Grassroots organizations build deep relationships and strong bonds, ensuring they have the strongest knowledge and expertise to address local needs.

This model has been proven successful time and again by our partners’ undeniable results. LGBTQI+ asylum seekers find belonging and independence in Philadelphia. Displaced mothers gain employment and stability in Ukraine. Youth from the Pacific Islands successfully carry forward traditions, wisdom, and culture, helping to protect their homes from the climate crisis. Only people can save the people, and our grassroots partners are doing that liberating work!

This Giving Tuesday, you can be a part of the collective, global impact cultivated by local leaders. Learn about the ways you can make a difference and then take action by contributing here.

Plant a Seed of Justice

A seed of justice may seem small before it’s planted, but it blossoms into a nourishing future. A contribution of $50 can be used for urgent materials and supplies that further our partners’ work. Your support may mean food in the kitchen of Casa Tochán, a migrant justice organization in Mexico City, or gardening tools in the hands of youth at Asociación Pop No´j, a group educating indigenous people in Guatemala. Plant a seed of justice to grow a better future today.

Water the Garden of Tomorrow

Contributions of $100 are like sprinkler systems in a greenhouse, creating an infrastructure of care that allows the seeds others have planted to sustainably grow. At this level, your support can help run legal hotlines for people in migration, furnish apartments for queer asylum seekers in transition, and provide reproductive health services through partners around the world. Water the seeds of justice with us!

Be a Pollinator

Thanks to a generous contribution from the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock in Manhasset, N.Y. (UUCSR), your contribution can make an even larger impact. If you are able to support our Giving Tuesday campaign with $150 or more, UUCSR will automatically match your contribution. Just as the natural world depends on pollinators to produce and spread seeds, the human rights movement needs your solidarity to multiply its growth and impact. Pollinate the ecosystem of justice work for this generation and the next.

With every contribution to UUSC, you support local leaders in making a global impact. Our community centered partnership model is the most effective way to support worldwide human rights work. We hope you’ll join us in planting a seed of justice this season. Thank you for all the generous ways you tend to the movement for collective liberation.
