Advancing Human Rights Through Acts of Love
Valentine’s Day reminds us that love is critical to human rights work.
February 15, 2023
Valentine’s Day may be over, but the spirit of celebrating and sharing love is a year-round practice. Love is more than just giving chocolates and flowers — it’s about creating a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect, regardless of race, gender, or background.
Here are three acts of love to advance human rights this Valentine’s Day and beyond:
- Hold the Burmese military accountable. Since 2021, the Burmese military has been waging war against its own citizens to seize and maintain power. Read the latest report from the Karenni Human Rights Group and others, documenting the atrocities in Karenni State and calling for action.
- Support relief efforts in Turkey and Syria. A devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria claimed thousands of lives and left thousands of survivors injured and displaced. Support the earthquake response by donating to locally-led, grassroots organizations that mobilize support for impacted communities.
- Support environmental defenders. The recent killing of an environmental activist by police in Atlanta shows we have a long way to go to defend the earth and our right to protest. Learn about the heroic work of those supporting our natural resources in the face of criminalization. Join us for the 2023 Intergenerational Spring Seminar on “Demilitarization & Abolition: Resist Policing and Empire.”
