About

The Tuvalu Climate Action Network (TuCAN) is a Tuvaluan civil society organization that unites and amplifies the voices of communities across Tuvalu in response to the climate crisis. TuCAN builds local resilience, advocates for climate justice, and ensures Tuvaluan communities have a voice in national, regional, and international climate policy. Its work focuses particularly on the impacts facing Tuvalu as a low-lying island nation, including rising sea levels, climate-forced displacement, and the loss of land, culture, and livelihoods.

UUSC partners with TuCAN to advance climate and disaster justice and support community-led responses to climate change. TuCAN is part of UUSC’s Pacific Rising initiative, which brings together Pacific grassroots organizations to develop strategies addressing non-economic loss and damage—including the loss of culture, land, community, and traditional ways of life caused by climate change. Through this partnership, TuCAN participates in regional strategy-building, advocacy, and participatory grantmaking designed to ensure that communities most affected by climate change have a meaningful role in determining how resources are used.

TuCAN has also worked with UUSC on international climate advocacy, including participation in UN climate conferences. More recently, UUSC-supported work led by TuCAN has included efforts to preserve traditional handicraft practices among Tuvaluan women while addressing the impacts of climate change and displacement.
