Workplace giving FAQs
What is a matching gift?
A matching gift is a donation made by your employer to match your original contribution through their corporate giving program.
Example: You work for General Electric and donate $50 to UUSC. General Electric’s corporate giving program has a 1:1 matching gift ratio. After submitting the necessary paperwork, GE will send UUSC a $50 contribution to match your original gift.
Who else qualifies for a matching gift?
Even if you are retired, your donation to UUSC may still qualify to be matched by your past employer. Spouses of current employees may also qualify!
I donated to UUSC a few months ago. Is it too late for my gift to get matched?
It is not too late to apply for a matching gift! Most corporate giving programs allow employees to submit matching gift requests up to 1 year after the date of your donation.
I’m a monthly or quarterly donor. How should I submit my matching gift requests?
We recommend submitting aggregate donations to your employer once per quarter or once per year, depending on your corporate matching gift guidelines. We will email you once at the end of the year as a reminder. Another option is to submit your sustaining gift to your employer every month!
What are volunteer grant programs?
Some corporate giving programs will send financial contributions to a charity where their employee regularly volunteers. Using our search tool, you can check whether your employer will donate cash for your volunteer time.
What if I can’t find my company in the search bar?
Even if you don’t see your company listed, your employer may still have a matching gift program. Check with your HR manager to verify whether your donation can be matched.
Are there other ways to donate through my workplace?
Yes! If you are a federal employee, a member of the military, or work for the Postal Service, you can donate through payroll deductions to UUSC through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). Make a pledge at the CFC Giving Website, click “Find a Charity,” and search for UUSC or enter our CFC # 11685.
Did You Know You Can TRIPLE Your Gift?
Unrestricted donations of $150 or more are eligible to be matched dollar-for-dollar by the UU Congregation at Shelter Rock in Manhasset, NY. That means through an additional match from your employer, you can make 3x the difference!
