Strategic Communications
Sharing stories of power-building, reframing narratives, and amplifying fresh voices across a new media landscape
Storytelling is a powerful tool to effect change. The first-hand experience of UUSC’s partners on the frontlines of justice work makes them the best people to tell their own communities’ stories. They are the experts — solution-oriented innovators who identify root causes of injustice and ways we can all support their efforts in advocating for change.

Our approach to strategic communications work
UUSC supports our partners in a true spirit of collaboration. Furthering the reach of our partners’ communications amplifies movement-building power, increases civic engagement, galvanizes advocacy efforts, and impacts policy.
It can take many forms — from writing a press release or op-ed to developing a multi-channel social media campaign, But it always begins with a commitment to understanding the on-the-ground needs of communities first.
We provide workshops, offer technical help, bring partners together in shared spaces, and assist with media outreach. With the support of Strategic Communications, our partners have been able to:
- Write and place persuasive opinion pieces
- Develop effective social media campaigns
- Design dynamic and engaging websites
- Read testimony before public officials and lawmakers
- Build relationships with reporters
- Strengthen local advocacy campaigns
- Capitalize on critical research
- Promote movement-building events and activities
UUSC’s communications work serves a larger narrative rooted in truth, justice, and collective action.
