In Solidarity with Palestine

UUSC remains committed to movements for Palestinian liberation and calls for international solidarity with Gaza.

August 6, 2025

In 2021, the United Nations General Assembly held a vote to recognize the fundamental human right to food. Two countries voted against the resolution: the United States and Israel.

All people deserve adequate nutrition and nourishment. All people deserve shelter and a safe place to live. People have the right to stay in their home and the right to migrate. At UUSC, we believe these are far from radical statements. They articulate a fundamental recognition and defense of human dignity.

Palestinian people and their allies have harnessed incredible collective, people-driven narrative power to call for an end to Israel’s use of starvation as a weapon of war. We are encouraged by this surge in solidarity as communities organize to take collective action. Mass legislative advocacy has begun shifting U.S. officials’ public opinions; notable politicians from both parties have spoken out against Israel’s war crimes.

We must keep up the momentum of mass advocacy as the U.S. continues to arm Israel, supporting the destruction of Palestinian life. It’s essential that we contact our representatives consistently and stay connected with organizations and coalitions on the frontlines.

UUSC has provided funding through global partnerships to support communities on the ground in Gaza. We’ve leveraged our network to act in solidarity with coalitions supporting frontline justice work. UUSC has been closely following the work of Funders for Palestine (F4P) and immediately signed F4P’s 2023 open letter calling for an immediate ceasefire.

The F4P community seeks to organize the philanthropic sector towards deeper solidarity with the Palestinian struggle, anchored in a wider vision of collective liberation. Founded in 2021 and accelerating its efforts since 2023, F4P builds the infrastructure to move resources to Palestine in partnership with Palestinian activists, civil society, and movements in the diaspora. This coordinated effort has led to increased support for funders with long-standing human rights commitments in Gaza. UUSC came together with F4P to form a collective response in support of Palestinian-led civil society. We have since served on F4P’s congressional advocacy delegations and continue to support their work.

Additionally, UUSC is proud to uplift the work of UUs for Justice in the Middle East (UUJME), an organization that regularly provides resources for advocacy, protest, and action. As people of faith and conscience, Unitarian Universalists are committed to the defense of Palestinian human rights.

You too can join this effort by contacting your representatives to advocate for the entry of humanitarian assistance and an arms embargo. This resource connects you with your government officials and provides a draft letter for your use.

UUSC again calls for the immediate resumption of humanitarian aid in Gaza. We reassert our demand that state powers honor the worth and dignity of Palestinian life and act against Israel’s war crime of starvation.

As June Jordan said, “Palestine is a moral litmus test for the world.” In defending the human rights of Palestinians, we work toward the advancement of justice and a future of collective liberation.
