Resistance is Rising

August 1, 2025
Right now, we’re witnessing many global leaders and corporate interests attempt to further erode human rights and democracy. It’s natural and normal to be emotionally overwhelmed by the horrors of fascist influences. When we feel hopeless, we are less likely to be motivated to speak out and seek justice. Often, the best antidote to anxiety is action. That’s where UUSC’s Resistance Network comes in.
Four months ago, our advocacy team envisioned a rapid mobilization hub that connects people to timely and meaningful ways to make a difference. It was dubbed the Resistance Network and quickly gained traction. Steadfast members have taken biweekly action to defend human rights and fight back against fascist advances.
Check out the Resistance Network’s accomplishments so far, and join us for future actions. Members of the network have:
- Successfully protected nonprofits
The Resistance Network spoke out against the tax bill that would’ve allowed the White House to revoke the tax-exempt status of U.S. nonprofits. While the Trump tax bill has other disastrous consequences for people’s health and safety, Republicans removed the portion that attacks nonprofits. We were a part of this essential change, enabling non-profit organizations providing essential services and working for justice to continue their defense of human rights.
- Advocated for Humanitarian Aid
The Network mobilized to defend USAID and demand that humanitarian aid be sent to Burma in the wake of a 7.7 magnitude earthquake. While the Trump administration has continued to dismantle international support, our commitment to expressing organized, consistent dissent influences our local representatives’ decision making and demonstrates collective power. Resistance Network members also wrote letters to the editor speaking out against aid cuts. Senators and their staff regularly monitor local media to gauge the sentiment of their constituents. Placing a letter in your local paper is one of the most powerful ways to influence their vote.
3. Spoke out against threats to people in migration and the transgender community
The Resistance Network enabled members to easily contact their congresspeople about these attacks on human rights. Members were invited to sign a pledge to protect and defend trans, two-spirit, and gender expansive people, and they received a guide on how to act more effectively in solidarity.
While the administration continues to separate and divide communities, strategic, inclusive, and non-violent civil resistance has grown stronger. You too can choose action over anxiety by signing up to join the Resistance Network today! With your help, we can nearly double our size from the network’s launch and double our impact.
Thank you to all the Resistance Network members that continue to join us in the defense of human rights. Together, we have the power to make a positive impact and, in time, build a more just world.
