Together We Rise: UUSC’s Resistance Network

The Trump administration’s sweeping attacks on human rights are designed to make us feel powerless. By simultaneously going after everything we believe, Trump projects a false impression of strength — and pits communities against each other in order to sap our will to resist.
But we are not fooled. We are prepared. Our grassroots partnership model is designed to build power when the government’s business interests prioritize profit over people. This is our time. This is our democracy.
That is why we are launching UUSC’s Resistance Network: to build our collective power, upholding democracy and civil liberties. Together, we rise to defend the core values we hold in common. Through this network, we will focus on five themes to strengthen human rights:
- Strengthening protections for people in migration through legal advocacy, mutual aid, and sanctuary networks.
- Ensuring rights for trans and gender-diverse people with access to healthcare, legal protections, and safe spaces.
- Expanding civil society’s power to organize against authoritarian restrictions.
- Defending international human rights institutions from U.S. government interference and defunding.
- Advancing climate justice by resisting policies that fuel environmental harm and displacement.
We have created an action center to share opportunities to take action to protect human rights in all of these ways.
We also want to hear from you about how you are resisting in your communities. We hope this network hub will become an inspiring place that uplifts and promotes our stories of building power together.
Dictatorships thrive when communities feel powerless. It has been the strategy of fascists and demagogues throughout history to cast their victory as somehow inevitable. By portraying themselves as a “force of history,” they hope that people will obey their whims without a fight.
Instead, our history teaches us that there is nothing inevitable about fascism. Complying with injustice is an unacceptable choice. Our values call us to choose resistance. We have power in this moment. This is our time. Our movement. Our power. Together we rise.
